Kelly Monson has done the morning show on 97.9 for fifteen years. He’s known for his smooth, friendly style, his musicality and his ability to get up at 4:00 am day after day.

Kelly loves music. He told everyone he was going to be a radio guy when he was a teenager and has ended up working for several cool radio stations as Music Director, Program Director, Promotions Director…but always as a on-air guy.

Kelly also loves Utah. His roots run deep here, being a descendant of folks who rolled into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. On his mom’s side he’s a 17th-generation New World man. His Norwegian side in America is relatively new, only 125years old.

Born in the small, west desert chemical weapons laboratory known as Dugway, he was raised in Provo and later moved to Salt Lake City.  He’s a Ute, class of ’83. Football, soccer, gymnastics, basketball–Go Utes!

Away from the station, he is a certified high school and youth soccer referee and is proud dad to a gaggle of wonderful girls. He enjoys gardening, golf, and a good book.

One of his most memorable experiences was as a volunteer for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Kelly was a host for composer John Williams, rockers Bon Jovi and Kiss, as well as medal-winning athletes from seven countries.
