Work in broadcasting began for me 150 years ago while I was still in high school. It was at a "Top 40" rock station and to say it was absolutely fun would be an understatement. There wasn't a lot of "formula" to radio then and we winged it mostly.
During that time I did two internships. The first was at KHJ in Los Angeles just as "Boss Radio" was about to take over Southern California. Much of that came back with me to the station where I was working and it was a whole new look at radio.
The next year I spent a short period (very young and sponge-like) at KMPX in San Francisco and could hardly believe what was happening musically there and across the Bay in Berkeley.
Much of that culture came home with me as well (I've never fully recovered). We put an FM station on the air which is now X-96, but initially all those years ago was very early automated Adult-Contemporary and was occasionally reliable. Ultimately a couple of us convinced management to give us late night air time and we put together "Utah Underground Freedom Radio." Ratings were unbelievable!
Most of my career, however, has been spent writing, producing and directing for film and television. It has taken me over a large part of the world and has given me great appreciation for the eclectic mix of music here at The Breeze.
